Creative Meet Ups and “Tweet” Ups

Are you reaching out and meeting up with your tribe?  My favorite social media tool for connecting with like-minded souls is Twitter.

My Creative Meet Up with Victoria Moran

A week ago, I had the pleasure of meeting with Victoria Moran, a creative soul and best selling author of “Creating a Charmed Life,” (a book I used to carry with me for “on the go inspiration” during my commuting days on NYC subways.) We recently connected via a tweet, and from there set up a coffee meet up in the West Village of NYC. This is a photo from our creative meeting and I am holding her brand new book, “Living the Charmed Life” (gorgeous, I highly recommend it!)

It was a pleasure to meet Victoria in person for the first time. We discussed the world of coaching, online marketing, and how to move beyond the “to do’s” and keep inspiration a priority.

Here is my original “re-tweet” to Victoria on June 1st that started our communication.

“Tweet Up” with your Tribe.

I have connected with amazing people through twitter and you can too!   Unlike what some may teach, creating results with twitter is not about the number of followers you have or how often you tweet.  And, no, you do not need to tweet what you had for lunch (unless you want to).

Here are 3 things you can do on twitter that will take you beyond personal and promotional tweets and help you build relationships :

(1) Start a conversation. Review your tweet stream (the “home page” for your twitter account”) and respond (@) to a current tweet that stands out to you. This is most effective when responding to a recent and “live” tweet (ie not someone’s “scheduled” or promotional tweet). Be sure to check if they respond back and keep the conversation going.

(2) Re-tweet with benefits. It’s great to re-tweet someone else’s tweet (using “RT” to copy their tweet and send to your stream) but go the extra yard by adding a bit about why you liked the tweet.

(3) Use Tweet Deck to keep tabs on VIP’s. Tweet Deck is a free application that organizes your twitter lists into easy to follow columns. You can tweet straight from your Tweet Deck and respond to people you want to track.

Here’s to building your tribal connections!

Thank you for this inspirational piece, Heather. I will now pay more attention to my tweet stream and look out for “kindred souls” to connect with! I agree with you that social connections are not about the numbers but about building mutually beneficial relationships. Thank you!
