SOUL-FILLED CAFE:  REJUVENATE YOUR LOVE WEEK

See the full schedule here.

Today’s Guest Post is by Lisa Berry

We all know the glass slipper fit. We all know that Cinderella lived happily ever after. But, what if, on that very special day when the ministers came by the house for the girls to try on the glass slipper, Cinderella’s feet were swollen?

What if she stuffed her emotions down with food and hid from all her feelings of low self-worth, not fitting in, feeling depressed with her living conditions and never getting ahead in life? What if bags of potato chips, muffins, pasta and cookies were her answers? What if chocolate-covered avoidance was her go-to response?

I’ll share with you what would have happened. The glass slipper would never have fit. Cinderella would have been left sitting there, in the beautiful embroidered Victorian chair, with her big, old swollen water retention foot – without a prince and happily ever after.

Imagine – just for a moment – that your life-long dream, a once in a lifetime opportunity, literally came to YOU, right to your door – and you weren’t prepared? What if the decisions you were making and the actions you were taking were ruining your success? What if these decisions and actions were holding you back from fitting in the exact life that you’d been dreaming of and were trying to create?

Imagine if your life was swollen and didn’t fit into your life’s magical glass slipper?

I remember when the word “success” was defined for me. When I heard it, everything just clicked.

“Success is when preparation meets opportunity.”

What does a successful life look like to you? What is your fairy tale life? Are you prepared to slide into it like a glass slipper when it shows up? When the opportunity presents itself to you?

Do you have the mindset that will motivate you into taking actions that propel you into your success?

Are you aware of the power and control you have in your very own life that puts you in the driver seat? The power and control to choose what foods you eat, what activities you participate in, what attitude you possess and what language you speak? Do you realize that it is YOU who chooses the people in your life? Are you allowing wicked step-sisters and mothers to dictate your daily activities and negative, hurtful emotions?

Choice is like a fairy godmother. The choices you make are like a granted wish.

That’s why people say, “Be careful of what you wish for.”

It’s the same as when I say to myself, ”Lisa, be careful of what you choose, because that’s what you’ll get.”

So how does one make choices that will get her to her fairy tale life?

How does one prepare so that when opportunity meets, she will have success?

I call part of the process “dating.” Just like dating a person, getting to know him and seeing if there’s a desired chemistry, it’s important to “date” our choices, especially our food choices.

To start Dating Your Diet, you must first have your Dream Diet in mind. You can’t make a wish to go to a ball and dance with a prince if you don’t know when the ball is or which prince will be there.

The 5 MUST-KNOWS before Dating Your Diet are:

•    How much time do you want to spend on this relationship? Time spent on learning, planning, shopping, preparing and cooking?

•    How committed do you want to be? Will you have a 100% clean diet, or will there be some days off?

•    Have you dealt with previous food dating issues? Emotional baggage is never good to bring into a fresh, new relationship.

•    Do you have a healthy role model and support for what your Dream Diet looks like? It’s important to be educated on how to eat, as well as having support in deciding what to do when choices are difficult, or when you lose sight of your dream diet.

•   Do you know how to dump your diet when you realize that the two of you do not have the same goals in mind? The key is to question “dating a food” at different stages. Question if you are getting the nutrients you need from this particular food to achieve an amazing relationship that will support your fairy tale life.

I’m sure the night that Cinderella ran home with only one glass slipper and without a prince, she looked in a few kitchen cupboards, considering comfort food. I’m sure she had the phone in her hand, wanting to order a pizza. I bet she even had a secret stash of gummies hiding beside her bed for some sugary satiety.

But in the end, I believe that Cinderella had dated her decisions before-hand. She had questioned which actions would give her the results she desired, and I’m pretty sure she hung onto her dream for a better life, a free life and a confident life. She was aware that by having the power to make her own choices and her own wishes, that she would create the life she wanted.

So, instead of eating those harmful and smothering foods, while waking up with swollen feet, she had confidence knowing that she had “dated” the right diet. And that night, she closed her eyes, laid her head on the pillow and held on tightly to her dream of a life happily ever after.

Know what your fairy tale life looks like…Know what your dream diet is…and start Dating Your Diet.

A Good Morning To All !!

I’ve been looking forward to this day All week and I want to start by sharing with you WHY Im so excited.
Connecting with another being…human or animal is a gift. Being a part of something outside of my own life and body is precious. I have great respect for the exchange of energy. It seems my entire life I’ve had a connection with food and health whether its been my attraction, my struggles, or my interest….it’s always loured me in. Developing my relationship with food has been an amazing experience. One that I’ve studied, analyzed, cursed lol..changed, played with and I’ve come to find that I enjoy helping others find their comfort zone with their food.
When someone dances through life because they’re in harmony with their choices…food or otherwise …it’s simply beautiful to watch and allow their song to flow through you and vibrate within.

Finally I want to share that when I sat in a doctors office years ago waiting to find out what was “wrong” with me…and the doctor looked me straight in the eye and said “You have two choices, you can either eat healthy or die”….I made my decision and Im here to help others make that same choice. To eat healthy and live happily ever after.
If you are struggling, if you don’t know where to start or why you continue to do what you do….if you want to fall in love with the right food and stop fighting Im here to gently support you while you build your power …I welcome any of your questions or comments.
Im all ears……please ask or share anything xo.

Hi Lisa! I’m a long time listener, first time caller. Wondering why the Canada Food Guide pushes grains so much when it’s obvious foods like bread can cause so many problems for people.

    Hello Everyone! Good Morning!

I’m excited to read what everyone is sharing here today! I don’t “diet” but I do like to cook, eat and home and make healthy choices. We eat whole grains, fruits, veggies and try to do a good job of meal planning and avoiding fried super high fat foods! I had a baby in October and now I noticed my metabolism has changed a good bit. I’m ready for my belly to go away! :) I would love to know what foods would help to boost my metabolism! I’ve also noticed lately that I don’t feel very hungry…then I eat and can’t get full! It’s so odd. I start out not hungry and end up starving! It’s odd.

I’m looking forward so much to learning a great deal today and am thrilled to be back for another fun day! :)

    Good Morning ComPEtition
Great question to start the morning off especially when most people are choosing grain based products for their breakfast. Cereals, toast, bagels, english muffins, muffins…etc. As you can see the list goes on.
You’re question is more of a political food question and Id like to offer my personal opinion on this.
Grain is a HUGE industry and countries like “healthy” industries. The Canadian Food Guide has certainly made attempts to clean up their recommendations however yes grain remains a large portion. Grain which is a carbohydrate is a source of fuel for the body. People need fuel and of course crave carbohydrates. The more available we make that carbohydrate to the cells the less work the body has to do to convert the carb into energy. We tend to be attracted to the “easy” stuff. :)
This is great news for the grain industry however bad news for our health. We crave , we buy, we consume. This can send us into circles of breakfast bagels, lunchtime baguettes and dinner time pastas…not to mention all the sugary muffins and cookies in between. As you can see wow what a lucrative business. Now because Canada has fortified the grain products we are getting certain nutrients: folic acid, zinc, B12. The industry has also started adding fibre BACK IN. Remembering that it was originally there before processing.
Its important to know that most people have issues with grains for many reasons the two largest ones being portion control and an unbalanced gut. If one were to have optimal gut health AND use grain sparingly we wouldn’t see the number of issues we do (diabetes, insulin resistance, celiac, allergies….etc)
My recommendation to everyone is to always Date their Diets….Is this grain or food serving me? Does this food create bloating, dark circles under my eyes, weight gain, low energy?? The Canadian Food Guide is an information source one can review and then Date….as long as you are asking what your food is bringing to your healthy relationship. No matter who recommends a particular food…our country, or Mrs. Smith…always get personal with your body.

Thanks for asking your very important Grain question!

What good information this is… and especially to me . I am not and have never been on diets but now in my harvest years (senior) I can not get rid of weight put on by not being as active although I still am as active as I can be, other things seem to take up my time. This bread business has been one that I struggle with all the time. Because it is so easy to have toast, sandwhich or anything quick at times it is right there…. I make my own bread and buns as well. My question is the sprouted grain bread, is it just a gimick or is it really less flour. I know that I have a problem with flour I do bloat and I do cough . I have also learned in the last week or so that sugar is a bad one and a friend of mine had a cough (no cold or medical reason for it) and once she took away anything with sugar she has not had the problem.
I do not use sugar in very many things and try to avoid the sweets but sometimes it tastes oh so good .
I love this dating your diet and yes if we can think of it as a love relationship ,great.

    Lisa,
If you were brought in to work with the version of Cinderella that was stuck in the emotional eating downward spiral. Despite knowing she shouldn’t reach for the muffin, it’s her first instinct every day when she feels down. Her sweet treats have become such a habit that she doesn’t seem to have an alternative.

What is the very first thing you would do with her, if she was your client (and that Prince was fast approaching).

Hi Lisa ;) As someone who grew up with eating disorders (beginning at the early age of 11) I love your whimsical approach to “diets” with the 5 must-knows. It was a long road to recovery for me from eating disorders (I got over everything finally by the age of 33 – yikes! that’s 22 years!)

What I love about my relationship with food today is that it is healthy, and it is for reasons such as your 5 must-knows about dating your diet. It is a relationship, and sometimes you don’t have the same goals, and if we can allow ourselves to be okay with that, then there is SO much less anxiety!! :)

Thanks for the amazing work you do Lisa :) You are a great role model in this field!!

    Much Love,
    Colette

  • http://www.datingyourdiet.ca Lisa Berry

Hello Allison, great to see you here today and thank you!

Yay, congratulations on your baby….a libra baby? Im a libra Oct 16th.
Im so happy to hear that you and your family has made the conscious effort to make healthy choices. Fruits and veggies are super great choices however you hit the one major issue most fall short on and thats avoiding high sugar and high fat foods. Its a balance between the two for sure.
Ok, so metabolism. Its a fancy system that can easily be influenced. Thyroid can play a huge role in setting the metabolism and its always a good idea to check your levels.
Metabolism influences appetite. Im walking through what you have shared that you’re not hungry but then cant stop eating. First thing that came to mind was to ask if you noticed a change in your taste buds or sense of smell since the pregnancy??
If either have become dull you might not be receiving the pleasure or proper signal to eat and once you start your body realizes that its time to eat.
Second thing to be aware of is your personal appetite thermostat. Our bodies LOVE routine and consistency. You may have created a routine unbenounced to you of going for longer periods of time without food and then stock piling. The body also adapts quickly so whether you’re hungry or not start “grazing” and eating smaller portions of healthy satisfying foods every 3 hours. Max 4 hours.
When I say satisfying foods…this includes healthy fats, fibre, amino acids, and fluids.
If one is not feeling full while eating check to see if there’s adequate fibre and protein in your food choice.
One of my favourite snacks: 1/4 avocodo and 10 or so grapes. Or try 2 tbsp of Almond butter and a large handful of green beans, another option is a half size portion of lean meats and grilled zucchini, or a protein shake with water and 1 tsp ground flax seed.
When you’ve eaten your “snack” stop. Know that in a few hours you’ll be eating again and keep busy. Drink water or yummy herbal teas in between.
Foods that boost metabolism are foods with a high nutrient profile eaten in small portions and frequently.
One major ingredient in boosting metabolism…especially with a tiny baby in your life….SLEEP. Good quality sleep. This may be tricky but essential.

Hope this helps and for any additional tips…Im here all day!

  • http://www.datingyourdiet.ca Lisa Berry

    Hello Carole,
Awe so nice to see you here. You shared some really common and personal “symptoms” of what can happen when the gut /body has too much sugar in it. lol…yes we can all fall in love with sugar. He he “The Bread Business”…I love it. Carole Im going to share with you something that I do that may sound like a lot of work but its NOT! Its simply different. I sprout my own grains. I moved away from bread and doing the “quick sandwich” thing because you’re right it’s too accessible and does not provide the nutritional value necessary for a loving supportive relationship and worse it can cause some nasty symptoms. I choose to sprout organic quinoa. Yes its a grain however it provides fabulous nutrients!!! Magnesium, Iron, Copper..B vitamins. When you sprout them their nutrient profile skyrockets!
check this link to learn about quinoa
    http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?dbid=142&tname=foodspice
Sprouting really is easy …it’s just requires a little more planning. As for your direct question is sprouted grain better?? Yes it’s better than white bread, or whole wheat bread, and provides more fibre however there are still even better choices. :)

Ps…Sprouted foods and fermented foods will really help with the gut symptoms and re balance you so that if you do decide to eat some lower quality grains you wont have to suffer.

Any more guidance….Im here all day!!

Awe…I so imagined Cinderella stuffing her face with muffins and crying…so sad.
Yes Lets help her right away!!!!

Emotional sugar craving is one of the worst and hardest to correct. Why? Because eating the sugary food is now linked with pain AND pleasure. Grrr
Sooo first things first, why is Cinderella in the emotional downward spiral and is she addressing the underlying issues and sadness? She will require an “emotional detox” and support system in place. Secondly she needs to remove the sugary foods …not as easy as that sounds, so we have the help of Cinnamon (a blood sugar stabilizer), vanilla bean, aromatic herbal teas, fruit with seeds and nuts and Chromium, a supplement to help!!
Getting Off the sugar cycle, feeding the body quality nutrients that it needs, doing physical activity…which lowers blood sugar levels and decreases cravings….getting adequate sleep and for woman COMMUNICATION!!!
Talking and effective communication, being heard and sharing actually increases a hormone (oxytocin) that makes women FEEL good. When we feel good we don’t turn to food for our comfort as we might in desperate situations.
As you can see there are a few steps before Cinderella puts down the muffin…but she CAN and when she does she’ll feel fabulous and be in control! :)

    Hi Lisa!

Wow! Thank you for sharing so much information! I DO go long periods without eating because I don’t feel hungry…and then end up eating a bit too much! I am going to start the eating every 3-4 hours and see how that works for me! I have cut out a lot of fat by drinking skim milk instead of 2% and using fat free half and half in my coffee instead of plain half and half. :) I’m happy to say they don’t taste too bad at all! I do think my big hurdle is sugar. I use a good bit in my coffee and even in tea. I’ve tried Agave nectar and other substitutes and really don’t care for them. I won’t use an artificial sweetener at all. I won’t enjoy my coffee or tea without sugar, (I’ve tried!) so I am going to have to find a way to cut back on sugar in other areas. I’m going to look for more fiber filled foods as well to feel full faster!

I’m thrilled to say that I have been blessed with a baby who now sleeps ALL night! I have just in the past few weeks been able to sleep through the night again. It IS making a difference in my energy levels for sure. She’s a sweet little Libra and I’m a Scorpio, Oct 24th! October is a great month!

Thank you for your help! I can’t wait to keep reading what other information is shared here today!

    Hi Lisa,

Great article! I love how you combine dating with dieting!! Very clever and right on point.

Your quesions are excellent, too. Really make you think about strategizing your diet … hmmmm.

There is so much talk about Vegan eating now. How protein is found in vegetables and meat products may not be the best for us. What are your thoughts around “raw” eating? (And what does “eating raw” really mean?) And what are your thoughts around eating animal products?

Having always been a meat eater, it’s hard to imagine a totally vegan diet!

Thanks and have a great day!
    Love, Cherry

Lisa, I love your wholistic approach. How many nutritionists talks about communication and sugar? It’s fun to eavesdrop on what you’re doing today. Thank you! Jaya

  • http://www.soulfilledlife.com Heather Gray

Lisa — you have that rare combination of KNOWLEDGE + HEART. Anyone who gets the chance to work with you is a lucky soul.

Did not know that “Cinnamon” is a blood sugar stabilizer.
I so agree about physical activity. I was snow boarding this past weekend, and the combination of being outside and physical movement: my head felt clear and a hershey’s chocolate bar was enjoyed without the usual roller coaster affect I can get from sugar if I am in front of my computer (up then crash)

Would love to hear more on “COMMUNICATION.” As coaches, it does seem that allowing a space for clients just to talk, is so healing. How do you help someone find more outlets for communicating?

    Dear Colette,
Thanks for sharing even more of your journey with us today.

I love Lisa’s approach too. Bringing in some “whimsy” to a topic that can get weighted with “should’s” makes approaching our food more joyfilled. I mean we have to confront it every day! She is so right that it is a “relationship” and if we take care of it, it will take care of us. (Just like our ‘soulmates’) :)

Question: From Ellyn (haven’t technical difficulties :(

Good Morning Lisa – so wonderful to see you here and I thank you for sharing your expertise with us. My question surrounds my 15 year old high performing athletic son. His training periods are very long cardiovascular workouts. With my limited knowledge, I know that directly following an intense workout such as this, he should be replacing protein quite quickly – correct?? His coaches suggest chocolate milk, but I have issues with commercially processed milk and would like some advice. I know that this is not a question about a habit surrounding a diet change as I want to start him off with good habits to begin with. Thanks Lisa.

  • http://www.datingyourdiet.ca Lisa Berry

    Hey Jaya
lol…you made me smile. Isnt it funny though how SUGAR is the number one most challenge substances. I heard a guru refer to sugar yesterday ….as toxic as driving down to the corner and drinking gas!!!
    Thanks for stopping in hun,

  • http://www.datingyourdiet.ca Lisa Berry

Hey…Im glad you asked that Heather!

Without out going into super detail…allow me to call Oxytocin the love hormone or the happy reward hormone. Its actually an amino acid that creates a feel good…. fear reduced and trust increased kind of feeling.
When women feel heard…feel they’ve expressed themselves, feel they’ve verbally communicated what’s going on in their heads….Oxytocin is released.
When we feel good….we dont rely on food as much to do the job. Make sense??

Sooo how do we communicate? Do we just walk out onto the sidewalk and start chatting away? Well some do…but thats not for all of us. :)
I would like everyone to sit back and take a moment to think of the three people they trust the most in their circle. When I say trust I mean someone who doesnt judge, who allows you to be you, who listens with full attention, who if asked will give you solid advice. Someone who matches your energy or who raises it.
This may be a friend, a family member, a coach, a social circle, even journalling or blogging!!!

Last summer I was going through a bit of a “retreat” time in my life. I pulled back a bit socially however still needed communication. Sooo I found the Internet. In fact thats how I met Heather. I started finding many teleseminars that pumped me up. I was not only learning and expanding my knowledge BUT I felt I was making friends with these people. The hosts of the shows and all the listeners. I felt a sense of community. Then I stepped out..I made contact with these people. I learned how to Skype !
I want to share that when I started surrounding myself with higher vibration people..my vibration raised. Eating healthy was a snap and I started incorporated new techniques like “sprouting”!!
Some television can be great..but when I removed it and started creating my own form of entertainment via the Internet and involved communication WOWY…Life got Really good.

Communication is a vehicle to how we grow….who are your three people or ways??

    A super hello to you!!

Yes how frustrating having to deal with pain while trying to do anything let alone teach a class.
You pose a very good question in regards to which foods to eat. Im going to offer you two sides of the coin here though in regards to food. Id like to share with you the foods that aggravate arthritis as well.

Your main offenders are: Dairy, Meat, Gluten, Sugar and anything in the nightshade family (eggplant, white potatoes, peppers, tomato)
I have many clients who when they removed, reduced or eliminated found their pain to be considerably less if not GONE.
Ok…two supplements I LOVE for arthritis….fish oil and MSM- phenomenal

Nutrients to focus on… I love foods with magnesium and natural calcium. Vit D every day as well.* Please do not take a calcium supplement*.
to obtain your calcium focus on leafy greens and nuts/seeds.
Foods: Nuts , seeds, dark leafy greens,
NOTE Caffeine greatly reduces calcium and magnesium from the body!!

Another few tips are epsom salt baths, sauna’s!!! (I love the Infra red sauna, so detoxifying.

    Hope this helps hun

    Hello Mauricio

Oh my the Milk question. lol
The grain and milk industry are two very “hot topics”.
I’ll share some general statements as well as opinion. I wish that we had access to raw milk which is simply natural milk straight from the cow. I wish Our cows were happy and grazing off beautiful green grass and that they each had names.
For now though we have access to processed milk from cows who are grain fed and who arent as happy as we’d like. Now in Canada we have strict laws and they do a pretty good job at testing and allowing clean milk to reach the stores.
The question is…should humans drink milk. Well another tough question. Many people have an allergy to the sugar in milk Lactose. When we “cook” it , the process removes what mother nature has put in it to help break down this sugar leaving the hard work up to our bodies. Our bodies can respond by being Lactose Intolerant. Not a pleasant state to be in. If you find that yes you can consume milk with no major side effects then the question might be…is it an appropriate beverage for our bodies? It does contain all three nutrients Protein: Carbohydrate: and Fat however it does not contain any of the essential fat that our bodies or brain needs for correct development.
Its my opinion that milk is not a strong food source for humans to be consuming nor is it a food product I place in any of my clients menus.

Personally I eat Kefir daily however my Kefir comes from coconut. If anyone is looking for a fabulous “yogurt” type supplement I highly recommend this food source not to mention the gut healing properties AND amazing healthy fats.

Thanks so much Mauricio…Ill be answering another milk question from Ellen….under ,my name if you want to have a read. The question is in regards to chocolate milk…oh boy! lol

Oh Im so happy to read from you Cherry!!! Hello

Wow the questions today are just phenomenal!!
A Raw food diet is something I’ve been dabbling in for the past few months and will share my personal experiences.

Eating Raw is different than eating a vegetarian diet. There are different classifications of vegetarianism….
Vegan mean NO animal product what so ever not even honey
Lacto/ovo means one would include eggs and dairy
    Pesce…is a lacto/ovo who includes fish.

However a Raw person is someone who consumes uncooked, unprocessed and organic foods. They do not heat their food over the 104oF (aprox 40oC). Raw foodist believe that if cooked above this temperature the foods lose their nutrients and can cause harm to the body.

Soo now that we have that established that…lol, I’ll share with you my experience.
I want to be clear that no one way is right for every one. In fact…as Colette mentioned earlier our ..goals change. Perhaps someone is going through a health issue and eating raw is best for them at the time but once back to health they may add a little here and tweak a little there.
Nothing is ever set in stone and you can create what YOU like. That’s why we Date our Diets…..what serves your goals best!!
For me..I DONT do well eating meat on a regular basis however at times I do include it in my choices.I find that when I strength train it’s NOT necessary for me to include animal meat in my diet to achieve the look or strength, however I do include a pea protein shake. I always purchase organic meat when I do eat it though and find a HUGE difference from non organic.

An overall way of looking at the benefits of a Raw food diet is that the less we mess around with it…the closer the food is to its natural state is almost always best. Some vegetables need to be heated so that our bodies can access the nutrients. Example spinach…must be heated, not cooked to release Iron and Vit E.

I enjoy my grains sprouted over cooked and feel the live energy that is transferred as I consume them.

I always recommend stepping out of your routine and comfort zone to try new healthy foods and absolutely recommend trying Raw Food if even to see how you feel.
Oh oh…the best thing to do is track down a Raw Food Restaurant in your area and make a special date of it. Share the new experience with a loved one and have fun!!

Hi Lisa!!! Thank-you so much for all of this awesome info!
I know sugar is bad, but are there any good substitutes? I’ve heard that coconut sugar is better/okay because it is low on the glycemic index….(it tastes better than stevia!)…..

    Thanks!!!
    Jenny

Hello Ellyn, thank you so much for joining and asking that really important question.

I remember when I first saw the commercial for Chocolate milk being “pushed” as healthy recovery drink. Grrrr.
Chocolate milk is loaded with sugar, chemical, food colouring and the jury is still out whether chocolate milk is made from a lower grade of milk.
The entire thing is ridiculous to me!!! I know I know I haven’t been that forceful but it really scares me when anyone pushes sugar of all things after a hard workout or strenuous sport. When our bodies are vulnerable after muscle use…our immune systems are down and sugar only depletes the immune system that much more.

Here’s a fabulous recovery drink….and yes protein really should be consumed within 30min after the workout or training period.
Coconut water (packed with electrolytes), raw cocoa powder, and you can even add 1 tsp of coconut butter/oil for essential fats.
If you’re a fan of Vanilla …vanilla bean is magical.
I like to squeeze a half of a citrus fruit into my coconut water as Im not a huge fan of the coconut flavour but LOVE lemons, oranges and grapefruits.
A few berries blended into a water protien shake is fabulous as well.

This is a great time to start him as you mentioned because poor habits are not yet formed. You’re a loving mama to build your children strong AND smart!!
    Thanks for your question Ellyn

Hi Jenny, Yay you made it. Awesome

I often chuckle at the “good” and “bad” food questions. We want so badly to label them so our choices will be easier. The truth are there are no 100% good or bad foods. Sooo if you are only having sugar in small quantities and fairly infrequently you’ll be just fine.
Yes you are correct Coconut (pure coconut) sugar is much lower on the glycemic index as well as it contains many nutrients.
Stevia is great for baking but when its used in beverages I find that it does have a distinct flavour.
Fruit, raw honey, pure real maple syrup are all more natural food choices. Med to High index yes but natural.
The most healthy route to take is to consume a strong natural diet 80% of the time and then when 20% is a little weak, your body is prepared. The worst thing is to have guilt or beat yourself up. Remember that fibre and protein lowers the rise of insulin and glucose.
(thats why I like fruit- fibre)
Right now Coconut Sugar is looking pretty good and Ill keep you posted as new sugar foods come to light.

    Thanks Jenny!

    Hi Lisa,

Wow – I’ve been reading all through the comments – you’ve got some amazing practical advice to share, and I agree with Heather – a lovely and groundbreaking combination of heart and know-how. Boy, you know A LOT! I loved the bit about happy cows.

I found when I read through your text above, I was struck by the idea of being ready for success, versus chasing it. Like it is already there around us right now, and what is required to experience more of it is to focus on preparing ourselves for it – with self-nourishment and maybe systems.

Maybe our prince or princess, the income, the happiness, the breakthroughs we are hoping for and chasing – are there at the door all the time. And will remain there patiently until we are ready for them :) Then BLAM – the door opens and in it comes! Yay!

What a BEAUTIFUL way to think. Thank you for bringing all this juicy awareness to me today. I’m loving it! Truth is, I can do without a prince, but I’m smart enough to substitute – lol!

    Awesome day Lisa!!!

    Alex

Lisa! You are so amazing, such phenomenal information today.

I am squeezing in another q for you before you sign off…

What is your advice for a healthy but grounding breakfast for a day when you need to be focused and get a lot done. I am a coffee drinker and if I eat something too light then I am “flighty.” (And at this point I am not ready to give up the coffee…) Any suggestions for a powerhouse breakfast that is also nourishing for the body? I seem to do best with eggs, but wondering what else I could play around with.
