Welcome to the Cafe Amanda! I know you’ve been on a powerful personal journey (from emotional healing to health to body bliss.) and now helping so many with your message. I’m looking forward to today’s blog chat . . . bring it on!

And what are you having for breakfast? (always curious what health conscious folks start their days with)

    Hi Heather and Amanda,

What a great Soul-Filled topic. Amanda — I love how you share that the quest for optimal health is an inner journey. At the beginning of this year I completely changed my eating habits and have released (not lost because I don’t want to find it again) quite a bit of weight. I’m also really examining my relationship with food (emotional eating) and feeling so much better about myself.
I know you offer a variety of program and support for people who are on the quest to be the best they can be health-wise. Is there a specific meal plan the you recommend, too?

    Write on!~

Excellent information Amanda. You Rock! And your purpose is so important in helping women to get on track with their purpose. Enjoyed the video.

    Hi, Amanda,

I loved listening to you talk about your journey…and about how this is not a quick fix. We are so accustomed as a society to expect results practically overnight for significant changes we want to make in our lives…so bravo to you for including the journey in your message!

I visited your website, and it’s wonderful! I really love how clear your message is, and how straight-forward your programs are. As a fellow entrepreneur, I am always interested in seeing how other women business owners present what they do – and you do an amazing job of it!

Looking forward to checking in with this blog today…

    Warmly,
    Sue

Amanda hello what important information. Thank you for raising awareness of our connection between our bodies and our ability to succeed in all areas of our lives! I appreciate your authenticity and vulnerability. Thanks for speaking your truth and helping others heal through your wisdom and experience.

    Hi Everyone!

  • KimberLee

Very interesting perspective to approach not only weight loss but how thoughts can interfere with our happiness and success. Thanks for sharing your insight.

Good morning everyone! I am so happy to be here today. I’m settled in with my Yerba maté so send me your juicy questions!

  • Anonymous

Thanks Heather for the warm welcome. I LOVE pumpkin flax cereal from Nature’s Path. Here’s a link for you to check it out. Instead of milk, I use rice milk.
    http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Path-Organic-Pumpkin-11-5-Ounce/dp/B001EO5RFE
I’m also drinking Yerba Mate for a warm natural pick me up and I love drinking lots of water when I first wake up.
What did you have for breakfast?

  • Anonymous

Lisa! I am elated for you. Yay! I’m so happy that you have joined this awakened path to body and soul bliss. I can’t wait to see you and give you a bug hug!

I do not offer a specific rigid so to speak meal plan because I like to encourage my clients to tune into their unique bodies infinite wisdom and grace.

However, I do have some really great guidelines to assist my clients go from “what the heck is quinoa?” to feeling radiantly confident in their food choices.

    Here they are…
I like the 80/20 rule because you are going to eat differently on a Saturday night than you are going to eat on Monday morning.

    Water-tons
Greens- at least 1 large organic salad daily

    Green drinks-fresh veggie juice

Kale, collard greens, spinach, rainbow chard etc in a stir fry, boiled, blended or raw

Whole grains- quinoa, amaranth, sweet brown rice, steel cut oats, purple rice

Fresh fruits especially organic berries because they are low on the glycemic index

If / when you are going to eat meat make sure that it is grass fed and humanely treated

Wild fish-never dyed or farm raised fish. They add food coloring to farm raised salmon to make us think we are getting the phytonutrients. Without the rich real color we are not getting the same nutrients. Also, limit fish to 2 times a week because of the mercury content..

    Eggs are great for protein

You need to tune into your body and ask your body how it feels about dairy, alcohol and sugar. I personally don’t do well with dairy. I get clogged, congested and constipated. Other people may not feel like that. It’s important to tune into your own body to determine what dose is best for you.

When you tune in and listen to your own inner wisdom you feel empowered rather than giving your power away to a diet or a diet guru.

You are creating your LISA DIET!

Please let me know how it goes!

    Love,
    Amanda

Thank you so much Kathleen. You have definitely played a role in my journey! I’m so happy to see you here.

    Hi Sue,
Thank you for introducing yourself. What kind of entrepreneur are you? I love meeting new women in business on this same path! It is a wild adventure isn’t it?

    Radiantly yours,
    Amanda

Hi Amanda! As a fellow IIN grad and social worker, I totally resonate with your message! I loved that you identified the unbelievable percentage of time so many women spend HATING and WORRYING and STRESSING about food and their bodies. Imagine how amazing the world would be if all that feminine “i’m not good enough” energy were channeled in a positive loving way! Wow;)
So my question for you, because I’m interested in how you support people around this, is this: So many people KNOW what they “should” be doing, what foods help them feel better, etc, yet serving oneself from that place – really stepping into that – is so hard. You mentioned that there’s a lot of inner work that has to go along with the outer work and I couldn’t agree more. Is there a specific exercise you might have people engage in so that they can make that inner shift from sabotage to self-care? (Hope that’s not too vague!)
I do a lot of work with moms around their own eating and body image so they can really empower their daughters around a positive relationship to eating and their bodies. I want my daughter to grow up in a culture that values and celebrates girls and women of all sizes and shapes; and recognizes each person;s unique beauty and brilliance…And supports true health (not just “get-skinny-health”…! That frees up our energy to create and live fully and authentically!!
So thank you for your positive empowering message, Amanda!
    Warmly,
    Karen

    Amanda,

Thanks. I am focused mostly on veggies, fruit and very lean meat. I do have access to organic beef which is a blessing. I watched the Jamie Oliver show last night and was horrified by what people are eating (and what is supposedly acceptable regarding the processing of ground meats)…

I also find that I now crave fruit as snacks AND — oddly I also crave kale steamed with tons of fresh garlic. Much better than snacking on fatty foods.

Do you have a favorite protein shake?

Thanks for all of your inspiration.

    Write on!~

    Lisa

Darn- I wanted to watch Jamie Oliver’s show last night and I missed it. What an incredible message for mainstream tv! I had a feeling you had a hook up with the good meat!

I love kale with garlic too.

Vega is a good raw food protein mix. You have to read all of your labels for protein drinks because they can add some funky stuff in there.

I also love Amazing Grass’s Green Superfood drink.. I prefer the Cacao chocolate infusion flavor. Yum!

    Enjoy!
    Amanda

I love to have an egg with my breakfast (either hard boiled or easy over, cooked in coconut oil) — it helps give me some yang energy to start the day.

Today…alas, I was out of eggs. (I am getting ready to do some traveling — so my fridge is rather sparce) I had sesame sprouted toast with almond butter and apple butter.

I am a coffee drinker. Despite my training at IIN and holistic health counseling certification, and several attempts to give it up, it’s one of those things that makes me happy so I have a cup of coffee with whole milk in the morning.

I’ll check out Yerba Mate — sounds like it could be a good afternoon “pick me up” too. And Pumpkin flax cereal sounds exotic and yummy.

woot! love that you 2 are working together.

And Lisa — I adore that you call it “releasing” (not lost) weight (b/c who wants to find it again?) I have 5 winter pounds I am *releasing* with love, this spring. :)

Nice to see you here Kathleen! Thanks for stoppin’ by.

  • http://www.soulfilledlife.com Heather Gray

GREAT questions Karen! (and thanks for being here!!)

  • Anonymous

    Nice to meet you Karen!

The number 1 most important action anyone must take in order to make the shift from sabotage to self care is to make the DECISION! They need to draw the line in the sand and declare that they are DONE with the insanity of hating themselves and sabotaging themselves with unhealthy foods and thoughts. There is so much power and momentum in making that decision.

They also need support! Did you know that we cycle through the same crazy thoughts 80% of the time. We can not do it alone. We need support. It’s important to educate your followers about the importance of getting and regularly receiving support. We as women especially need a tribe and a community of conscious elders and colleagues in whom we can look up to and then we can lead our sons and daughters. Keep up the great work, Karen.

    Love,
    Amanda

Question about Role Models. I am always looking to other women in the spotlight for role models of feminine leadership, grace and beauty. (Something with more dimension than a model in Vogue magazine.)

Do you have a favorite woman that you feel inspires you with her beauty?

I’ve always loved Queen Latifah (in fact wrote about her in my teen girl guide book, “Real Girl, Real World” — as a woman who is confident, gorgeous, and multi-talented, and a leader. I recently noticed that she is a spokes person for “Cover Girl” — woot.

Another recent favorite is the actress Mary McDonnell. I’ve recently become addicted to “Battle Star Galactica” (it’s offered on Netflix streaming and a friend recommended it, after 2 episodes I was hooked and in for the long haul of 4 years worth of shows.) I bring it up, b/c I LOVE the role that Mary McDonnell plays on the series – - she is the President of the colonies. She is a wonderful role model for me of just embracing her looks and shining radiantly with wisdom and grace. She’s often the one with common sense and leads without giving up her femininity.

Ok, who are you favorite role models?

Amanda, this is great information and I love the menu you outlined for Lisa.

I really need to start leaning into this way of eating more. Currently I thrive on sugar, alcohol and cheese !! I have released caffeine and am conscious around gluten. But the rest … oy!

Kale, collard green, chard and green drinks scare me !!

Can you recommend an easy, ready to eat snack to replace my peanut M & M bowl ?

    Thanks so much !

Heather, this is an excellent topic at your soul filled cafe today :)

    Love, Cherry

  • http://www.soulfilledlife.com Heather Gray

ahhh, the upleveling of peanut m&m’s. I know “sunshine” makes a brand that’s more “organic” but I think it’s still a load of sugar. But on the positive side, the peanut ones are healthier than the plain b/c they have more protein from the peanut (and the peanut is a real food)

Great to “see” you at the cafe, Cherry!!

I’m so happy to see this!! As your relative, I can personally attest to the transformation you’ve made, both physically and spiritually. I can also attest to the wonderful advice you give. For many years, I’ve had food issues and have recently been reading your blogs, visiting your site and putting into action the suggestions and good thought you put forward. I’m happy to say, I’ve released weight and am well on my way to finding the body and life I deserve. Keep up the fantastic job!!

    Hi, Amanda,

Yes, it’s a wild adventure, that’s for sure! I help women entrepreneurs who are struggling with clutter, overwhelm, and disorganization (which is very similar to what you do, but with stuff rather than food!)

This has been so fun to read everyone’s posts and your responses today, Amanda. What a wonderful approach you are sharing…how to get in touch with our own body’s wisdom about what we need to nourish ourselves.

What do you find is the biggest obstacle women experience around getting in touch with their own wisdom and hearing the needs of their bodies?

    Warmly,
    Sue

    Hello Hello Amanda!!
How exciting to find you here. I literally was just texting a dear friend who is going through this exact thing!!!
I have a super important question on her behave as she’s running into work. She’ll check out your reply this evening. Your story.. your journey is inspiring and your insight would be greatly appreciated!
Actually its a question from both of us….
I am a nutritionist and my friend is a personal trainer…we are always in the public eye and of course our every move is an example to others. Right now my friend is in a place where she herself is not happy with her body image. She is “dealing” with her tramas and situations however in the meantime, she is having an extremely hard time stepping out there…marketing herself, even training because of her uncomfortability, low self confidence and negative thoughts. Her question is..while she’s getting there…loosing the weight, gaining back her energy…what would you suggest would help her feel her power on her journey??

My question is what is your best suggestion of how I might handle a situation where I am in public eye for a birthday or event and DO have a sundae, a cookie…or yikes potato chips?? I LOVE the 80/20 and certainly share with all my clients that Im not 100% clean but Im always a little extra conscious when in public.

Im so excited to hear your thoughts,
    Love
    Lisa

    Hi Cherry,

    Keep leaning into it baby!

I have some great snack ideas:
    Lara bars
Amazing Grass’s Green Chocolate Cacao Infusion powder drink
    Almond Butter on apple slices
Ezekial toast with jam and almond butter
    Carrots and hummus
    Avocado’s
    raw nuts and seeds
    fruit
    yogurt
    flax crackers

    Enjoy!

    Love,
    Amanda

  • http://www.soulfilledlife.com Heather Gray

Lisa — fun to see you here!

    Great juicy question.

For me I love to see my someones humanity and authenticity over their perfectionism any day. But I can see how the pressure of being the “health coach” makes those situations tricky.

Look forward to Amanda’s input (she is out doing some errands and will be back at the blog shortly)

    hugs, Heather

    Yay !!

Excellent ideas, Amanda. I’ll look to enjoy your recommendations. Bay bee steps … :)

Heather, love your positive note around peanuts. That’s exactly how I rationalize … sometimes I mix it up with almond M&M’s :)

    Thank you both !

    Love, Cherry

    Hi Lisa and Friend,

It’s great that you have a friend in the same field as you to share this journey with. I love that.

To answer your friends question… it boils down to moving deeper into LOVE- love of self and loving here beautiful body and food no matter what the size is.

She can start this by implementing a major SELF CARE routine such as massages, hot baths, water, essential oils, meditation, journaling, nature, breathing, yoga, relaxation, vision boarding etc.

I would also have her change her thoughts to things that she actually wants to manifest in her life. “I am loved” “I am safe” “I trust myself” “I am beautiful.” “It is safe for me to be me and to take up space.”

I would recommend that she gets out there anyway because when we share, mentor, coach and help others by getting out of OWN WAY we can heal faster. You can NOT wait to be thin, to lose weight or to get energy. All you have is this moment. You need to get out there and serve.

The bonus of all of this is… you will have a very clear and intimate understanding of the journey which ultimately will help you help others (ie. make more money). The bigger the mess the bigger and better the message and mission. Rock that story, girl!

Use your body and issues an inspiration.

Sometimes, I think that my small frame actually blocks people from working with me because they don’t think that I can relate to them!

We’re all in this boat together. Like I lovingly like to say, “get over your food issues and PLAY BIG!”

    Love,
    Amanda

  • Anonymous

I agree with you. I love it when a woman is in her power in any size body, the body size doesn’t matter.

  • Anonymous

    Hi Lisa,

Now I’ll answer your question…I can relate to your question completely. When I go out and celebrate that is usually my time to treat myself and celebrate the rest of the time I’m eating really clean and healthy.

The dose makes the poison. If you have a handful of chips or a scoop of ice cream that’s no big deal at all. You can use it as a teaching moment with your clients and friends.

Food is supposed to be pleasurable, fun and delicious so enjoy it!

Being 100% healthy is not always feasible so be real and authentic and be YOU.

I’m all for being a flexatarian too. You will eat differently at a b-day bash then you will for lunch on a Monday.

    Enjoy!

    Love,
    Amanda

  • Anonymous

Great question. I love your services too! Everyone needs you!

I think the #1 obstacle women experience around getting in touch with their own wisdom is that they give their POWER away to diet books and diet gurus or what their friends are doing or eating. Diet is very individualized for each and everyone of us.

We need to learn how to own our power and we do that through listening to our bodies. What makes us feel AMAZING and what makes us feel like crap?

    Tune in and trust it!

    Love,
    Amanda

Coffee is ok for some of us. I think if it makes you happy and it makes you feel good then it’s a total YES for you. Enjoy!

Eggs are yummy with coconut oil. You are so an IINer!

Cool! Can you believe it, I haven’t really thought of who inspires me with their beauty and overall package. I have friends who do this for me but I haven’t thought of anyone in the media yet.

I love Oprah and I dream of being one her body love experts.

  • http://www.soulfilledlife.com Heather Gray

ooo, yeah almonds. M&M’s are getting so very sophisticated. They just need to figure out how to get “super greens” inside them. Then you’ll be all set Cherry!! <3

  • http://www.soulfilledlife.com Heather Gray

    great snack list!

  • http://www.soulfilledlife.com Heather Gray

Oprah is a great role model.

Ok — be on the look out for some Role Models Amanda!!

  • http://www.soulfilledlife.com Heather Gray

“get over your food issues and PLAY BIG!” reminds me of the notion…sometimes we need to create BIGGER PROBLEMS for ourselves with a bigger mission and as you say playing bigger and going for it, so that the current fears become tiny hurdles.

    I most definitely will!

    Hi Amanda,

Your little video was inspiring, I don’t normally watch these types of things but I’m really glad I did! Just curious…if I’m a person who does a lot of self healing already in dealing with loving myself more because I have body image woes, and it isn’t helping, what is the next step? I workout, try to eat clean(except when emotional issues get in the way), I get massages, counseling, practice meditation, I journal, walk in nature, do breathing exercises, yoga, relaxation, & recently tried a vision board! It seems I just plain need to drop the last 25lbs before it eats me up inside…and it already is. What words of wisdom do you have for me? It’s been too long that I’ve been like this and it is not the person I’ve been in the past or want to be in the future. This Now person I am is overweight and under-loved. Where do I go from here?

    Sincerely, Girl-Who-Wants-Positive-Change :)

    Hi, Amanda,

I know it’s the day after, but I wanted to respond! I love what you wrote about how often we give our power away to outside experts rather than listening to our own inner wisdom.

    Keep up your fabulous work!

    Warmly,
    Sue

  • AmandaMoxley

Thanks Sue! Have a wonderful day too!

  • Amandamoxley

    Dear Girl-Who-Wants-Positive-Change,

Bless your heart first of all. Breathe deeply and know that all is well. You are doing so many positive things with your body, mind and spirit. I feel that this is a case of moving deeper into self love and acceptance. Can you love those last 25 pounds and love yourself as you are today? Breathe.

    Love is the only absolute.
    Love is the highest vibration.

On the other hand, you may have some food sensitivities/allergies which are keeping the weight on. Have you done testing?

I would love to help you get to the SOUL root of this, it is my specialty in fact.

I’d love to offer you a complimentary Body Breakthrough Strategy session to help you identify the soul root of this imbalance.

If this interests you, please contact my client care specialist Valerie@AmandaMoxley.com and she’ll set up a time for us to talk.

    Much love,
    Amanda
