Every time life brings you to a crossroads, from the tiniest to the most immense, go toward love, not away from fear. Think of every choice in terms of “What would thrill and delight me?” rather than “What will keep my fear—or the events, people, and things I fear—at bay?” ~Martha Beck
When I first launched my coaching business, one of the articles I wrote was about “Life’s Crossroads.” It resonated with a lot of people, and I wanted to write about it again as these days I see sooooo many people sitting at life’s crossroads.
I (intimately) know that crossroads can be painful and nerve wracking, but they are also precious opportunities to grow and make a courageous choice for your future. Or you can remain stuck…but I promise “sitting on the fence” is a lot more painful.
To step into my own Soul-filled Life and Business I had some heavy doors to close and big choices to make. It was not an easy time, but I see now that as I took the steps (or at times “leaps of faith”) towards my joy and where my heart was leading, the magic would happen. I would meet the perfect person who would open up a new door. I would receive an inspiring idea that guided me closer to my goals. Or a miraculous synchronicity would happen at just the right time giving me just what I needed.
The times I got myself stuck in the mud are when fear was running the show: “I can’t afford that,” “I should be practical” or “No one will like it, I should not put that out there.” These thoughts kept me spinning my wheels and doubting my choices.
Are you sitting at a life crossroads? Make a courageous step forward for your life.
The following is my list of things to look for if you want to navigate the “Thrill and Delight You” Path vs the “Resistance and Fear” Path.
Signs You are on the Resistance and Fear Path:
- You are blaming someone or something
- You are suffering and feeling like a victim
- You keep thinking “something’s gone wrong”
- You are numbing out with activity or addictive behaviors
- You are trying to force outcomes
Signs You are on the Thrill and Delight You Path:
- You are experiencing JOY
- You are willing to forgive someone or something
- You feel loving toward the world and other people
- You feel excited and hopeful
- You begin to experience those “one day, someday” things in real life
I chose to follow my golden compass with no guarantees that it would “work out.” It took a lot of trust and determination as well as encouragement from some amazing mentors who had journeyed before me. Today I see that my life has transformed from that time at the crossroads.
How about you? Have you recently gone through a life crossroads?
I’d love to know your thoughts about life crossroads, and traveling the “thrill and delight” path vs. the “fear and resistance” road. Share with me in the comments below.
