Yes! Weight Loss Can Be Easy and Permanent! (And Why Diets Don’t Work)

It is said that you only need to change 3% of what you are doing, for the rest of your life to begin changing.

In the past decade we have been saturated with dieting information. We all know that sugar, transfats and lack of exercise are bad for us. With all of the information available, why is it so difficult for many of us to attain and maintain a slender, healthy body?

It is not just about what foods to eat and how to exercise, but also about what you have innocently internalized in your heart and mind. The good news is that you can heal the unconscious mistaken beliefs that have led you to overeat. When you change the inner you into a healthier, more self-loving and confident one, you will start to view food differently. More good news: This profound change does not require a lot of time or money.

As a formerly overweight person, I know firsthand the despair of not being able to lose weight and keep it off.

If you are overweight, you are not to blame! It is not your fault!

Before you change your relationship to food, you must first change your relationship with yourself. Traditional diets are about looking at the outside world: what you buy at the grocery store, what gym to join, the numbers on the scale. As long as you keep your focus on the outside, you will go on and then off the diet. You will lose and then gain the weight. If nothing on the inside of your heart and mind changes, you will stay stuck on the failure plan of diets.

I simply do not subscribe to the myth that positive changes need to be difficult and time consuming. One of the many reasons I’ve embraced hypnotherapy is that changes can be accomplished quickly and in an easy and pleasant manner. Once you’ve released emotional and behavioral barriers, such as feelings of unworthiness, negative self-talk and other damaging and limiting attitudes, you’re free to enjoy the body of your dreams.

When you change on the inside, the reflection you see in the mirror changes.

You can feel the confidence, the self-love and motivation to turn away from the
thoughts and feelings that cause you to gain weight. Are you ready to take charge of your mind?  Are you ready to be in control again?

TECHNIQUES YOU CAN START USING TODAY

Your beliefs are formed by the thoughts and images you repeat over and over again.  To lose weight, it’s helpful to first change your beliefs about your worthiness and ability to succeed.

Today’s exercise and suggested blog topic: Change Your Mind and Gain Control.  The first step to changing your thoughts is to be aware of them.  Tune into the inner chatter that habitually goes on in your mind.  Are your thoughts positively propelling you toward weight loss success, or are they sabotaging your desires?  Examples of sabotaging thoughts are “I’ll never lose weight. Why even try?”,  “Getting older means a slow metabolism. I’m bound to gain weight as I age”, “I hate (my body, myself, exercise)”, and “ I’m too busy to cook healthy foods”.

What are your personal sabotaging thoughts?  Let’s blog about this!

The second step is to change the sabotaging statements into statements of affirmation and to repeat them as often as possible.  You are your own personal hypnotherapist who is programming your powerful subconscious mind all day long. When you realize that your thoughts create your feelings, images and actions, you empower yourself to change today.

AFFIRMATIONS TO STRENGTHEN & SUPPORT YOUR WEIGHT LOSS

Notice how your physical strength, emotions and energy shift as you read the following affirmations. Also, notice the positive images that are formed in your mind. Pay special attention to the affirmations that trigger strong resistance.  Resistance indicates a block.

• I deserve to have a healthy, slender body.
• My body is my best friend.
• I love myself today, no matter what I weigh.
• I enjoy compliments from others.
• I prefer to be slender rather than to overeat.
• Fruits and vegetables look, taste and smell delicious.
• I have plenty of time to eat slowly.
• I enjoy leaving extra food on my plate.
• The more I exercise, the more I enjoy it.
• I walk, talk, think, feel and act as a healthy person.
• Today I’m finding clothes that look attractive on me.
• I have a right to say “yes” to my needs.
• I can do it!

Now, close your eyes and see yourself as slender, fit and energetic.  Feel confidence and happiness grow as you imagine yourself exercising, eating healthy foods, and buying smaller sized clothes. Hear the compliments of others as you are beaming with pride.

What you internally see, hear, and feel become your reality.  Good luck, best wishes and keep in touch!

~Kristin

Kristin — thanks so much for your great article and for being with us here at the SF Cafe. I love your perspective that making permanent, positive changes to ones health can be effortless.

Before launching Soul-filled Life I was certified as a holistic health counselor and spent 2 years working with clients on their health and eating.  I know first hand how difficult it can be to change an individuals habits and shed weight by only offering them great information about what to eat.  I think what you are doing with hypnosis and lasering in on individuals beliefs is exciting!

And, in a nice synchronicity, I received this, Tut “Note from the Universe” this morning:

“Do you think that if someone finally realized that their
thoughts became the things and events of their life; began believing
that they were truly unlimited; and started to grasp that divine
intervention could be freely summoned by anyone to help make their
dreams come true, they’d continue doing the same old things, living the
same old life, and waiting for the same old miracles?

Or would they begin thinking things they’ve never thought before, saying
things they’ve never said before, and doing things they’ve never done
    before?

    Precisely. The Universe”

    Hi, Kristin and Heather,

Thanks so much, Heather, for bringing in another wonderful guest to your Soul-filled Cafe today!

And Kristin, so good to see you here! (I have worked with Kristin on my own weight loss…)

I love your article, Kristin. And from my own experience, what you’re talking about totally works. I had been really thin most of my life until the last 6-7 years when my weight has been more of a struggle. Since dieting didn’t work for me, I mainly used exercise to keep the weight off.

But when I unexpectedly went up FOUR sizes this past year, I knew something had to change. Working with you, Kristin, taught me that if my conscious mind (the one that wanted to eat healthier and lose weight) was being trumped by my subconscious mind (the one that had another agenda altogether), I was going to unknowingly sabotage myself over and over.

I have to tell that it was a huge relief to realize that I could get my conscious and subconscious minds working together…and when that happened, I easily made changes in what I was doing and how I was eating.

And from what I’ve learned and experienced, hypnosis is a fast way to get the conscious and subconscious minds working together (I was skeptical beforehand, since I had never tried hypnosis, but it was amazing!)

I have lost my cravings for sugar, dairy, wheat, junk food, pop…basically everything that had been affecting my body and energy negatively. Now my eating is SO simple. I don’t think much about it, and the weight came right off. Plus, now my kitchen is clutter-free in a way I never thought possible.

The biggest shift for me happened when you said that losing weight can be easy and forever, and that I didn’t have to work hard at it – YAY! And my mind loved that…so that’s what I believe completely now (and that’s what shows up in my experience, too).

Like you wrote about the TUT message for today, Heather, that’s exactly how it feels.

Some of my biggest sabotaging thoughts were:

    - my body has changed as I have gotten older, and this must just be ‘how it is’
    - dieting hasn’t worked for me, so I will either have to work out a lot harder or accept more weight on my body
    - maybe it’s not that big of a deal
    - I haven’t gained THAT much weight, have I?!?

    My thoughts now are:

    - my body loves being thin and healthy…I feel so much better that way, and that’s how my body prefers being, too
    - I eat what makes me feel really good
    - I don’t eat what doesn’t make me feel good
    - I deserve to feel great

Looking forward to reading the posts today!

    Warmly,
    Sue

Thanks Sue (and Kristin!!! and Heather!!!) for your comments.  I listened to Kristin’s seminar, hosted by Sue a few weeks ago.  Sue, you were sooo enthusiastic about the results you got working with Kristin that I ordered Kristin’s book and CD.  I am now a firm believer in changing your mind FIRST….the body must follow!

I want my weight loss to be EASY (effortless, natural….) and I think that, like Sue, I just assumed that now that I have gone thru menopause, “this is the way it is”.

Aside from listening to the hypnosis CD and reciting affirmations and visualizations—are there any other suggestions from Kristin about how to cement these better ways of thinking into my head?

    Hi, Ally,

So good to see you here! Isn’t it amazing when you change your mind first, that the changes happen almost by magic?

Can’t wait to hear Kristin’s response to your great question. :)

    Warmly,
    Sue

    Hi Ally,
Thank you so much for your comment and for ordering my book and CD!  I think an important way of cementing the healthy images and thoughts into your subconscious is to IDENTIFY yourself as a slender, fit, healthy woman….starting today.  Observe the healthy people in your life and acknowledge to yourself that you not only deserve to be healthy like them, but you are already walking the road of healthy eating each and every day.  It’s also important to not only recite affirmations, but to FEEL them.  Get those great feelings of confidence and self-worth going, knowing that you will lose the weight you want to lose and that you are enjoying your weight loss journey, every step of the way.  All journeys of self-love can and should be enjoyable and peaceful.

Set a new, reachable goal each week, Ally, such as increasing your exercise even just a little bit or introducing a new vegetable into your meal plan. Even just parking your car at the far end of parking lots has been shown to be hugely beneficial to not only weight loss, but increasing energy levels. Visualize your legs becoming more slender and shapely as you walk across the parking lot.  Breathe in the fresh air as you tell yourself, “I love moving my body”.

Good luck and let me know how you’re progressing!

I’m here all day if you have other questions!

Just reading your words made me feel skinnier!!!!!!!!!!!  Thanks so much.  I AM on my way.

  • http://www.facebook.com/newhealthvisions Kristin Volk Funk

Good Morning, Sue!  Thank you so much for your wonderful note and congratulations on your weight loss success!  And yes, you can expect to keep the weight off forever.   It will be easy, automatic and effortless now that your subconscious mind is in sync with your conscious mind and desires.

I love your examples of sabotaging thoughts, as I’m sure many of us can relate to them.  I noticed how my energy level and emotional state shifted downward just by reading those statements and how they triggered feelings of helplessness, despair and denial. Because our repeated thoughts become automatic when practiced, we forget to question them.  But all of our thoughts affect our mood, energy level and actions (even our immune system!).  All words and thoughts are powerful.

By taking control of your thoughts, Sue, you’ve taken control of your eating.

Your new thoughts of power, confidence and truth have quickly developed a new mindset.  Your new mindset now leads the way!  Brava!

    Warmest,
    Kristin

    Dear Heather,
First of all, THANK YOU for having me as your guest today.  I’m looking forward to some lively discussions and community sharing.

The Note from the Universe you shared is priceless and SO true.  Let’s gently and lovingly set aside our old limiting thoughts, behaviors and feelings and unite our greatest visions of ourselves with the divine intervention that surrounds us every day.  We are each viewed by the universe as unconditionally lovable and worthy of health and abundance.

What is your greatest vision of your body?  See it as slender, fit, active and healthy and you will be resonating with Truth. Whatever you focus your mind on, becomes.

    Peace and gratitude,
    Kristin

You are SO on your way, Ally!   Keep me posted and send me your “after” picture when you’ve reached your goal.  You will be thin and healthy sooner than you can imagine!

    Warmest,

Yes you are Ally!  I love your positive attitude.  Thanks for sharing with us at the SF Cafe today.

And Kristin — I love your tip to “identify” as a slender, fit, healthy woman (vs. a “someday” “one day” thing)   This is POWERFUL advice for all the things we are “wanting” — financial prosperity, loving relationships, successful businesses.

  • http://www.newhealthvisions.com Kristin Volk Funk

Thank you, Heather!  It’s my first time blogging, but I’ve gotten the hang of it and LOVING it!

  • http://www.facebook.com/newhealthvisions Kristin Volk Funk

Great reminder, Heather!  “Someday” is just an illusion and therefore lacks power.  The present moment is where our power lies. When we say, “I am living the life of my dreams today” we are acknowledging that we create our reality moment by precious moment. Thank you for sharing!

    Hi Kristin,
It’s Tina.  What are the best ways to be sure I’m balancing my exercise and eating?  Some days I feel like eating more, some less, and I wonder if I’m scuttling my weight maintenance by varying it.

  • http://www.unclutter-organize-transform.com/ Sue Rasmussen

And the best news is that it’s so EASY this way! :)

    Warmly,
    Sue

  • http://www.facebook.com/newhealthvisions Kristin Volk Funk

HI Tina! Thank you for joining the discussion!  I think that some people are successful by being very consistent in their daily eating and exercising and other people do better by varying their routines. I personally like a bit of both:  structure with flexibility. So I aim for 30 minutes of exercise a day, but vary the type and intensity. If I miss a day or two, I make up for it on another day with more exercise.  I tend to stay away from high calorie meals M-F, but eat more on the weekends. The key is to find what works for you, embrace your health successes and to listen to your body.  It’s normal to  feel hungrier some days and may need a bit more to feel satisfied.  Just try to eat more of the healthy foods on those days, like fresh vegetables, and you won’t gain weight.

    Best wishes!
    Kristin
