When Candace Payne wandered away from the yoga pants rack to the toy section of her local Kohl's, she was not making grand plans to break internet records, be featured on James Corden's Carpool Karaoke, or meet J.J. Abrams.
In Candace's own words: "I ended up going to the toy section because I got discouraged about the yoga pants and I thought, ‘Maybe not today. But I can get a toy for my kids.’ And I walk through the toy section and I accidentally bumped my shoulder into this box. And I had seen this before, but I didn’t realize it made sounds until that moment. It accidentally started making the growl, and I went, ‘I need to get that. Like, I don’t think my kids need that, I think I need that.’”
The rest is Chewbacca Mom history. The video she shared on Facebook, wearing her new Chewbacca mask, hit 1 million viewers before she went to bed that evening and over 20 million by the time she woke up.
I love Candace's story, because she simply followed her inner nudges. She did not "should" herself into an ill fitted yoga outfit or ignore a spontaneous desire to purchase a toy for herself. She trusted her inspired idea to share her new mask via a live streaming Facebook video. These small joy-lit choices led to some serious magical mojo in her life.
Your life is filled with inspired crossroads. How often do you listen and follow a nudge to change course? Do you trust your inspired ideas?
I know for myself, I often need reminders to live my life more consciously (vs the should's, well intentioned plans, and sounds good drudgery.) A great place to build this muscle is to surround yourself with others who are committed to more conscious living.
This week, I would love for you to join me for a free online event that is being hosted by my friend, Michael Neeley, called the Conscious Life Summit. I am one of 24 featured speakers who will be sharing our own stories of conscious living to help expand your mind. It will provide you with practices you can implement right away – strategies that will bring you deeper connection, greater awareness, and more grounded-ness.
You never know where an inspired idea may drop in...
